Jewellery Care

Caring for Your Masterpiece

At Chellery, we craft our jewellery to last for generations. However, fine jewellery—especially diamonds and precious gemstones—requires mindful care to maintain its brilliance and structural integrity.

Follow our expert guide to ensure your pieces remain as radiant as the day they left our workshop.

1. The Art of Cleaning

Diamonds are "grease magnets," naturally attracting oils from skin and lotions, which can dull their sparkle.

  • The Method: Use a mild soap solution in warm water or a specialized jewellery cleaner.

  • The Tool: Gently scrub the piece with a soft-bristle brush, paying close attention to the underside of the setting where dust and oils collect.

  • Avoid: Never use harsh chemicals, bleach, or abrasive cleaners, as these can erode the precious metal settings.

2. Safeguarding Your Gemstones

Different gemstones have unique personalities and vulnerabilities.

  • Emeralds: These are delicate and often treated with natural oils; avoid soaking them in water or using ultrasonic cleaners.

  • Pearls: Organic and porous, pearls should be the "last thing you put on and the first thing you take off." Wipe them with a soft cloth after each wear to remove skin oils.

  • Coloured Stones: Aquamarines, Morganites, and certain Sapphires can fade with prolonged exposure to intense sunlight. Store them in a cool, dark place.

  • Hand Washing: We recommend removing rings when washing your hands. Soap residue can create a film on stones and, over time, loosen certain settings.

3. Proper Storage & Protection

  • Individual Care: Diamonds are the hardest natural substance and can easily scratch your gold or other gemstones. Always store pieces in their original Chellery pouch or a lined jewellery box with separate compartments.

  • Environment: Keep your jewellery in a dry, climate-controlled environment. High humidity can accelerate the oxidation (tarnishing) of certain metal alloys.

  • Activity: Remove your jewellery during heavy activity, sports, or household chores. Physical impact can chip stones or bend prongs, even in the most durable settings.

4. Professional Inspection

We recommend a professional "check-up" once a year. As part of our commitment to craftsmanship, we can inspect your settings to ensure all stones are secure and provide a professional deep clean to restore your piece to its original fire.
